Placemaker

One who does Placemaking.

Placemaking

A multi-faceted and inspired approach to the planning, design and management of compelling places for people to live and visit; imagining, creating and transforming locations into vital and appealing places that promote enjoyment, enrichment, access and usage; improving sites to enhance their community, popularity, profitability and sustainability.

Movement

We are part of a global movement that believes the art of Placemaking should serve to provide quality of life and rewarding experiences through the excellence of the spaces we create. It is our contribution to a better world.

1

Philosophy

We should and we want to work for better places. We introduce a dimension which is central in the contemporary thinking of space: people. For this reason we see space in 4D, where the relationship between people and place is at the heart of our activity. A new way of seeing, thinking and feeling spaces.

Team

Bound by a common passion – to create inspiring places that are vibrant and sustainable – we are a team made up of specialists in the many facets of Placemaking, dedicated to thinking spaces in a multidisciplinary, contemporary and fully integrated way.

What We Do

We create places, not just their spatial design.
It’s a combination of searching, discovering, understanding, imagination and art.

What We Deliver

We think and create vibrant places that improve the experiences and quality of life for those who live, work and visit them, through a long-term vision for healthy and sustainable development.

Operational Areas

Whether it’s a Visitor Attraction, a tourism destination, a museum, an historical district or other cultural location, we create solutions that maximise the potential of places, delivering a value-chain of creativity, planning and operational management through a sound Placemaking project.

Know-How

We integrate the various disciplines that make up the art of Placemaking, giving us the competencies, the knowledge and the experience to work in a range of scales and configurations. Our totally integrated and holistic approach extends from the capacity to imagine the solution through to the art of its implementation.

Projects

We are proud of what we have achieved and, more importantly, of how we have achieved it: in partnership with our clients and respecting the spirit of place.

Visitor Attractions

Projects for creating and managing anchors – cultural, leisure and others – that function as dynamic visitor catalysts, transforming spaces into popular and viable destinations that promote enjoyment, fruition and engaging experiences.

Heritage & Culture

Projects for regenerating and revitalizing cultural and heritage sites by leveraging the location’s natural or socioeconomic values. Focusing on the symbiosis between tourism and culture and the development of their potential as socioeconomic catalysts.

Urban Regeneration

Projects integrating physical, social and economic transformations rooted in the community and the place’s identity; for a sustainable social and urbanistic intervention aimed at promoting the local community’s quality of life and strengthening the place’s appeal.

Declaration

We advocate the existence of a new dimension in the contemporary thinking of spaces – people – in what we call the “4th. dimension of space”. A new way of seeing, thinking and feeling places.

Jane Jacobs

What attracts people most, it would appear, is other people

William H. Whyte

The measure of any great civilization is its cities and a measure of a city's greatness is to be found in the quality of its public spaces, its parks and squares

Os homens valem infinitamente mais do que as casas

Távora

You can't rely on bringing people downtown, you have to put them there

Jane Jacobs

There is no logic that can be superimposed on the city; people make it, and it is to them, not buildings, that we must fit our plans

Jane Jacobs

It is difficult to design a place that will not attract people. What is remarkable is how often this has been accomplished

William H. Whyte

I believe that a successful city is like a fabulous party. People stay because they are having a great time
